Strabag secures a new contract in Poland

Austrian building group Strabag has further enhanced its market position in the Transportation Infrastructures segment in Poland after securing a new contract in that country. Representatives of Poland's General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA) and Strabag subsidiaries Hermann Kirchner Polska as well as Strabag Sp. z o.o. signed the agreement to build an approx. 40 km section of the Expressway S8 with a contract value of about € 254 million. Work is set to begin in January and is expected to last 27 months.

In addition to the construction of the four-lane expressway using concrete technology, the 19 km section of S8 between Walichnowy and Złoczew, situated approx. 240 km south-west of Warsaw, comprises construction under traffic of a junction to busy National Road 45 as well as of 16 bridges. The extremely difficult geological conditions require the subsoil to be strengthened with a total of 60, 000 m of piles and 700, 000 m³ of geotextiles. The construction works will be carried out by the group subsidiaries Hermann Kirchner Polska, Strabag Sp. z o.o. and Heilit+Woerner Budowlana Sp. z o.o.

The second section between Złoczew and Sieradz Południe is 19.6 km long and is being carried out as a two-lane road also using concrete technology. The order further includes the construction of 18 bridges, the conversion of local and municipal roads, as well as the construction of the Dąbrowa Wielka rest area including the technical infrastructure. The works are being carried out by a consortium of Strabag Sp. z o.o. and Heilit+Woerner Budowlana Sp. z o.o.

"The difficult subsoil conditions of this project represent a special challenge: our great experience and our technical know-how in this field afforded us a decisive advantage and allowed us to secure the contract, " says Strabag SE CEO Dr. Hans Peter Haselsteiner.
