NCC launches industrialized residential construction

NCC Construction Sweden is launching a new business unit that will develop and sell industrially produced housing units. Using smart building systems as a foundation, NCC will build energy-efficient high-quality homes at low prices and with short construction periods.

On July 1, 2011, a business unit will be established, through which NCC Construction Sweden will concentrate all development, design, purchasing and sales of industrially produced housing.

The initiative is based on smart building systems, from which several different types of housing can be created. NCC has already begun the production of various two-story house designs, with one, two and three bedrooms.

NCC has already begun manufacturing housing units with energy consumption of less than 60 kWh and a guaranteed construction period of five months. These homes are always sold at fixed prices.

The business unit's principal business location will be in Gothenburg, where all product development and purchasing will be managed. The homes will be sold and produced in close cooperation with NCC's regular contracting operations. The initiative entails residential production through an industrial process performed at worksites by a small number of employees, and will thus require no major investments in proprietary production facilities.
