Ferrovial builds highway in Poland

Spanish group Ferrovial, through Ferrovial Agroman's Polish subsidiary Budimex, has signed a contract with Poland's General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways to build a 16-km section of highway S17 at Lublin, in south-eastern Poland. The contract is worth over 83 million euro (327 million zlotys).

The company has 24 months to complete the project, which will form part of the E-372 European highway linking Warsaw to the city of Hrebenne, on the frontier with Ukraine. The new section of road will be 16.5 kilometres long (including 12 km of dual carriageway) and will link the cities of Kurow, Lublin and Piaski.

The consortium will also build 33 km of access roads and other infrastructure, including 8 viaducts, 7 bridges, 6 pedestrian overpasses and the "Swidnik" junction, where the access roads join the main road. It will also install 105, 000 square meters of acoustic screens and excavate 426,000 cubic meters of earth.

Budimex, Ferrovial Agroman's Polish subsidiary since 2000, obtained 700 million euro in construction revenues and 41 million euro in EBITDA in the first nine months of 2010; its backlog totaled 1.814 billion euro at the end of the period, i.e. a 41% increase year-on-year. During the period, Ferrovial obtained 833 million euro in revenues in Poland.

Its main contracts in Poland include the recently awarded bridge over the Vistula river at Kwidzyn, sections of the A2 and A1 highways, sections of the A4 highway between Debica and Rzeszow and between Jaroslaw and Radimno, and renovation of the Wroclaw railway station.
