SNC-Lavalin, a large Canadian engineering firm, announce that it has been awarded a contract by Bariq Mining to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the Jabal Sayid copper concentrator project located in Saudi Arabia. The project has an estimated pre-production capital cost of approximately US$300 million.

SNC-Lavalin's mandate includes ore crushing, conveying and stockpiling facilities; facilities for concentrating, storage and loading; as well as mine infrastructure including power, water and tailings disposal facilities. The processing plant will be designed for a nominal production rate of 3.0 Mtpa.

SNC-Lavalin's Brisbane office will carry out the work in collaboration with its office in Saudi Arabia for local coordination. Work has begun and the project is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2012.
