Impregilo awarded a new hydroelectric project in Colombia

Impregilo, an Italian-based construction and civil engineering business headquartered in Sesto San Giovanni, has won the tender organised by EMGESA, Colombia's largest electricity company and one of the main industry players in South America, to build the El Quimbo hydroelectric power plant. The project is worth approximately 250 million euro.

Located in the Department of Huila on the Magdalena river, the El Quimbo plant will have an installed capacity of 400 megawatts; construction work will take about four years, including a main dam 150 m high and 635 m long, and a secondary dam 66 m high and 410 m long.

In Colombia, Impregilo has already been working on the construction of the Sogamoso hydroelectric plant since the beginning of the year, worth approximately 400 million euro.

Impregilo has also won the "Ruta del Sol" project, a strategically important motorway concession involving construction work worth approximately 1 billion dollars and aggregate management revenues for about 3.7 billion dollars over 25 years.
