Strabag wins contract for three schools in Germany

A consortium led by Strabag Real Estate GmbH, a company of the Strabag Group, one of Europe's leading construction groups, has been awarded the contract for a public private partnership (PPP) from the city of Mülheim, Germany. The company was chosen in a multi-stage tender process to handle the redevelopment, partial new development and operation of the Karl-Ziegler-Schule, Luisenschule and Willy-Brandt-Schule as well as the operation of the Gemeinschaftsgrundschule Styrum in Mülheim for a period of 25 years.

The contract volume (build, finance, operate) amounts to € 160 million, of which € 52 million is for the construction and modernisation of the buildings. Non-recourse forfeiting was chosen as the financing model. Compared to realising the project itself, the city of Mülheim saves nearly 8 % on project costs. In addition to being the most economically advantageous bid, the Strabag consortium – whose other members are Ed. Züblin AG for the construction work and Strabag Property and Facility Services GmbH for the operational services – was also chosen for the short building time, the best architectonic designs and the planned hiring of local subcontractors.
