Flatiron secures Yadkin River bridge project in North Carolina

Flatiron, one of the US's largest transportation and infrastructure contractors, and joint venture partner, Lane Construction Corp., was awarded a $136 million contract by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to design and construct a new dual Interstate 85 bridge and an adjacent US 29/70 bridge spanning the Yadkin River, near Salisbury, N.C., about 40 miles north of Charlotte.

The new I-85 bridges provide eight traffic lanes and will replace a 55-year-old, four-lane structure in one of the state's most congested sections of Interstate roadway. Flatiron-Lane will widen about three miles of I-85 Interstate to eight lanes including the north and south approach roadways to the bridges. The NCDOT will use $10 million in federal stimulus money to fund the project.
