TurnerSmoot team to construct hotel in Columbus, Ohio

The construction management team of Turner Construction Company, the US's leading general builder, and Smoot Construction have been selected by the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority to provide pre-construction and construction management services for the $92 million Columbus Convention Center Hotel in Columbus, Ohio. Completion is scheduled for 2012.

The 532-room hotel features a 10-story atrium, ballroom, meeting and banquet rooms with 4-star finishes, a full-service restaurant and lounge and a fitness center. The scope of work also includes the construction of a bridge connector to the Greater Columbus Convention Center, a vehicle ramp to the parking facility and a pedestrian entrance to the garage.

The project is being constructed to achieve a LEED Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council. Green features of the facility include a 33% reduction in energy/carbon usage, enhanced commissioning, construction waste recycling, use of regional materials with recycled content and low-emitting materials, bicycle storage and changing rooms, dual-flush toilets and low-flow fixtures, individual occupant lighting and thermal control and a Green Seal certification for Lodging Properties.
