Novel construction roadheader in the 100-ton class

The Sandvik MT520 is a novel construction roadheader in the 100-ton class. The machine concept is based on easily exchangeable optional modules, enabling the MT 520 basic machine to be adapted to a wide variety of applications. The machine's eight-meter cutting height module means that it is highly suitable for large road tunnels. The main focus in the development of this new machine was increased productivity and safety. For example, the driver enjoys a fully air-conditioned cabin with ergonomic controls, mounted on shock-absorbers. Active stabilization of the machine during cutting minimizes vibrations.

Easily exchangeable modules form the basis for cost-effective tunneling in cutting conditions up to a compressive strength of approximately 100 MPa (UCS), where the ICUTROCTM hard-rock cutting capability is not required. For maximum cutting performance in soft ground, the cutter head can be exchanged within less than a shift. The full cutter motor power of 315 kW is available both on the transverse and on the in-line cutter head model. An integrated dust-extraction system ensures a healthy work environment for the tunneling team.
