DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied Weather Barrier System

DuPont has introduced a new innovative technology under the DuPont Tyvek brand - DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied Weather Barrier (WB) System. The product combines the industry-leading performance of traditional DuPont Tyvek building wraps with the superior protection of DuPont Tyvek CommercialWrap and CommercialWrap D into a fluid-applied form that can be rolled on or spray applied. DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied Weather Barrier System is a new technology that can be rolled on or spray applied to seal a building envelope.

DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied Weather Barrier System allows for a more sustainable structural design through enhanced energy efficiency and water protection. Clean up is easy, using either mineral spirits or common citrus-based cleaners.

The product will be available by early May through a phased launch for commercial buildings beginning in Texas, with national availability in the United States for both commercial and residential building applications expected by early 2011.

Like DuPont's traditional building wraps, the DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied WB System helps seal the building envelope, allowing for a more sustainable structural design through enhanced energy efficiency and water protection. Clean up is easy, using either mineral spirits or common citrus-based cleaners.

"The new Tyvek Fluid Applied WB System, combined with our existing weather barriers, offers architects more options for building protection. We can now provide the building and construction industry with a complete package of envelope solutions, backed by building science," said Thomas F. Schuler, president - DuPont Building Innovations.

DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied WB System offers features not available elsewhere in the industry. The new technology provides the ideal combination of air and water holdout, and boasts the highest vapor permeability among the competition at its application thickness. It saves time and use in the installation process by providing two-to-three times as much coverage per gallon as competing products when applied per DuPont's installation guidelines. Additionally, by combining low shrinkage with high elastic recovery, DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied WB System moves with the building unlike other fluid applied materials that can shrink during curing and form pinholes or cracks over time. As a complement to DuPont's portfolio of existing science-based weatherization products, the new fluid-applied product is easier to install on concrete masonry and complex high-rise buildings than traditional wrap-based weather barriers.

Enhanced durability provides architects, general contractors and engineers with the confidence that a DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied WB System will continue to perform well, even in the most extreme environments. By withstanding up to nine months of UV exposure before coverage by a façade or cladding, the product enables added flexibility to construction schedules.

DuPont invented the building wrap category over 30 years ago, and the new DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied WB System adds another option to the company's long-standing weatherization portfolio. Offering premier building protection in any climate, on all substrates and behind all façade, the portfolio of DuPont Weatherization Systems also includes DuPont Tyvek CommercialWrap, CommercialWrap D and HomeWrap, which are ideal on steel stud, gypsum sheathing structures or straight forward designs. The new DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied WB System consists of a weather barrier, flashing and joint compound and sealant, and is ideally suited for high-rise buildings with complex designs.
