Strabag builds a new shopping centre in Poland

Germany's ECE Projektmanagement signed a contract with Austria-based builder Strabag for the construction of the new shopping centre Galeria Kaskada in Stettin, Poland. The total investment value amounts to € 190 million. Construction starts in March 2010 and is scheduled for completion in fall 2011.

It will be the third time the two companies cooperate on a shopping centre in Poland; the two previous being Galeria Łódzka (construction and extension) and Galeria Krakowska. The long-time partners have cooperated on a number of projects in other European countries.

Despite the economic crisis, ECE and Landesbank Berlin AG and Berlin Hyp have managed to sign the credit accord for € 111 million. Galeria Kaskada is hence one of the biggest single investments in the CEE region since the beginning of the economic crisis. It will have almost 104,000 m² on three levels and is predicted to become the new shopping and leisure attraction for the city and the region. The building will be finished using the highest quality materials, such as glass, natural stone, façade ceramics, and stainless steel.

It is located in the very centre of the City of Stettin, close to main tourist attractions. Its shopping area is approx. 43,000 m² with 140 shops. Galeria Kaskada will also accommodate offices on 1,000 m² and will have a multi-level car park with 1,000 parking spaces.

Strabag has been present in Stettin and Western Pomerania for many years. Its first construction project in the region was Pazim Centre with Radisson Hotel, carried out in the early 1990s.
