Leighton wins third contract for Australian LNG project

Hochtief's subsidiary Leighton, via its Group company Leighton Contractors, won a third contract for the Gorgon gas project on Barrow Island, Australia. In a consortium, the company will build offloading facilities and marine structures worth EUR 561 million (AUD 900 million). Leighton Contractors' share is roughly EUR 421 million (AUD 675 million). Leighton subsidiary Thiess is already carrying out construction works on other elements of the Gorgon project.

Leighton Contractors will design and construct a 2.1-kilometer-long jetty which will end approximately four kilometers from the shore. Upon completion in 2013, transport vessels carrying liquefied natural gas will be unloaded there. The company will also build a Materials Offloading Facility (MOF) heavy lift facility and other marine structures, including tug pens and navigation aids. Planning for the project for which Leighton Contractors will also take over procurement of materials will start immediately, while actual construction is scheduled to begin in October 2010.
