Ramboll wins award in Middle East for sustainable design

In the Middle East, Danish engineering, consulting and operating services group Ramboll has won the Engineering Company of the Year Award handed out by Construction Week, the best known construction industry magazine in the Middle East. For this year's award, focus was on companies that incorporate sustainable and environmentally-friendly techniques while keeping in mind the architectural appeal as well.

Ramboll was awarded with the title of 'Engineering Company of the Year' by the judges for "delivering a net-zero carbon and self-sustaining design for the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage … in Liwa Oasis". This is a proposed accommodation facility for the staff working with restoration of old forts. Ramboll created a structural design for this contemporary building using local, natural building materials such as date palm tree and stems.

The 5th Annual Construction Week Awards was open to engineering firms across all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and is the most prestigious construction awards in the Middle East.
