Robina Town Centre Northern Malls project wraps up

The Northern Malls redevelopment of Queensland Investment Corporation's (QIC) Robina Town Centre on the Gold Coast has recently reached practical completion, with over 100 new retail stores and a state-of-the-art cinema complex now open to the public.

Bovis Lend Lease, one of the world's largest construction management firms, was the Managing Contractor for the construction of the multi-staged expansion, which commenced in September 2007.

The redevelopment involved the construction of a new 11 cinema Event Cinema Complex, home to Queensland's first V-MAX Cinema with a combined 2,500 seat capacity; a 10,000 square metre Big W; a 4,500 square metre Woolworths; a 900 seat food court; a 1,100 bay car park and over 100 new specialty retailers.

Robina Town Centre now features three new enclosed, air-conditioned malls including a two level galleria mall with a curved skylight roof connecting Arbour Lane and Bazaar Street to a myriad of new retailers as well as anchor tenants David Jones and Big W. Additionally, the final component of a ring road was constructed to provide improved access for customers and through traffic.

A number of sustainability and water conservation initiatives were implemented by the Bovis Lend Lease project team, including channeling water from approximately half the centre's total roof area into the adjacent lake, allowing excess water to be used for irrigation even during times of water restrictions.

The project also involved redeveloping the lake area to create a lakeside promenade incorporating restaurants, a children's play area and landscaped gardens. An environmentally-friendly vegetation filter system has been incorporated to maintain water quality.
