Oslo’s opera house, an iceberg in the Norwegian fjord

The Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo is the winner of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies Van der Rohe Award 2009. Inaugurated several months ago, this fantastic building is intended to make opera, ballet and symphonic music more accessible to members of the public. Architect Snøhetta chose Stopray Safir, one of the extensive family of AGC Stopray glasses, for this very special project for a number of reasons. Firstly, its aesthetic appeal links the land with the sea and opens up the space inside and outside the building for visitors walking around the whole site. Secondly, this glass combines high insulation with a great solar factor, perfect for the Norwegian climate.

AGC Flat Glass Europe makes and processes flat glass for the construction industry (exterior glazing and interior decorative glass) and specialist sectors. Based in Brussels, Belgium, it is the European branch of AGC Flat Glass, the world's leading producer of flat glass.
