Systra to carry out studies for extensions to the Bakou metro

As head of a consortium including, amongst others, MottMacDonald Prague (Czech Republic) and Saman (Korea), the French state-owned consulting firm Systra has won an international call for tenders launched by the Bakou Metro (Azerbaijan) to draw up designs for the future metro network.

The study phase will include a survey about the urban mobility of public transport users and the development of a model for traffic forecasting. This will enable a plan to be drawn up for the development of the Bakou metro, which will involve extending the two existing lines and creating two new lines.

Once completed, the network could cover an additional 60 kilometres and include 50 new stations. This landmark project reflects the wishes of the President of Azerbaijan to launch a major urban development scheme in the country's capital, Bakou.
