Future concepts for cemeteries at Stone+tec

The three major products segments at Stone+tec Nürnberg, which takes place in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 20-23 May 2009, include gravestones and accessories as well as natural stone and technology. The new special show entitled "Places good for the soul!" focuses on the cemetery: the cemetery of today, but especially the cemetery of tomorrow. The art foundry Kunstgießerei Strassacker is organizing a 500-square-metre special show that presents new cemetery design concepts for municipal and church administrations and all trades involved with work for cemeteries. Examples of cemetery and grave concepts are shown that illustrate how existing cemeteries with established structures can be "redesigned" from within – with low financial resources and without general planning costs.

The walk-in show demonstrates how grave concepts based on the needs of the bereaved can be integrated into existing and newly created open spaces. Graves that eliminate the obligatory grave care, allow mourning rites and consider the therapeutic effect of a grave.

The design requirements profile of these concepts including gravestones is structured so that every qualified grave designer is capable of implementing the examples presented as exhibits. This modified approach to cemeteries, which focuses on demand-orientated grave concepts and their practical implementation, will open up new prospects and business development possibilities for the trades involved with cemeteries.

The special show is supplemented with an information event which presents a current, representative fundamental study on the present mourning and burial culture in Germany. This takes place on Friday, 22 May 2009. The study clarifies for the first time the surviving dependants' requirements, expectations and needs relating to graves and which of the known types of burial can meet these requirements. The study also explains how surviving dependants perceive and rate the currently known cemetery and burial concepts.
