Flatiron employees recognized as Top 25 Newsmakers

Flatiron employees Elie Homsi, PE and Peter Sanderson received honors as two of the Top 25 Newsmakers of 2008. The prestigious award is given by Engineering News-Record (ENR), recognizing leaders in the construction and engineering industry.

Mr. Homsi, Flatiron's vice president of engineering services, designed an innovative top-down construction method for bridges that reduces the environmental impacts of construction. This method is currently in use on the Washington Bypass project in North Carolina. For many years, Mr. Homsi has made exceptional contributions to the development of construction technology for major bridge projects. He has worked on projects such as the I-35W Bridge replacement in Minneapolis, the John James Audubon Bridge in St. Francisville, La., and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Skyway in California.

Mr. Sanderson was the project manager for the award-winning I-35W Bridge in Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Sanderson and his team completed the 1,216-foot-long precast segmental bridge in less than a year and more than three months ahead of schedule. Mr. Sanderson has more than 35 years of engineering and construction experience on major, multi-million dollar projects that have included the Bath-Woolwich Bridge in Maine and numerous Central Artery/Tunnel projects in Boston, Mass. This is the second time Mr. Sanderson has been a Top 25 Newsmaker.
