PCC receives LEED Silver certification

Pleasanton Corporate Commons (PCC) has received Silver certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) program, sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the nation's leading non-profit authority for green buildings. This is the first multi-tenant campus to achieve silver certification in Northern California.

The four-building, 600,000-square-foot office campus, situated on a 28-acre site at the corner of I-580 and I-680, is managed by Hines and advised by the US real estate business of UBS Global Asset Management. The property was certified LEED-EB Silver based upon its submission of documented best practices, which meet and exceed high-performance and environmental requirements.

In addition to LEED certification, three of the buildings at Pleasanton Corporate Commons have received ENERGY STAR labels since 2001. The campus' average benchmarking score is 90, meaning that the project uses 40 percent less energy than its peers, saving more than $850,000 per year. This energy reduction prevents about 3,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year, which equates to the annual CO2 emissions from energy use of over 200 homes, or the annual greenhouse gas emissions from about 500 vehicles.

Also in 2008, Pleasanton Corporate Commons was recognized locally for its green efforts with a "Stop Waste Partnership Award" by the Alameda County Waste Management Authority & Source Reduction and Recycling Board, and as a "Certified Green Business" by the Alameda County Green Business Program. Lastly, the campus received a $5,000 grant from the Stop Waste Partnership to fund part of its new recycling program.

The LEED Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED-EB is a USGBC-sponsored program for owners who address sustainable operations and maintenance for existing buildings. The USGBC is the nation's leading coalition of corporations, builders, universities, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations working together to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Pleasanton Corporate Commons was developed in 2000-2001. The property is fully leased.
