High-speed turbo-doors in airport Stuttgart

To meet the constantly growing demands in the international competition, the airport corporation Stuttgart / Germany bets among others on large investments. The newly built ground-traffic-service hall offers most modern technology. "Time is money. The planes have to be loaded and unloaded quickly" says Dirk Friedrichs. His planning department supervises all new building projects at the airport. "Therefore, it was very important for the planners to choose most high-grade building services engineering for the new 5.937 square-meter hall." The doors are particular trouble spots. That's why we opted for products by EFAFLEX. Due to the high requirements of the building, these products are best qualified regarding technology and cost-effectiveness. The quickness of the doors was emphasised most."

Six of the largest hall openings were equipped with EFA-STT High-speed turbo-doors, each measuring 7.000 mm in width and 5.750 mm in height. The door hangings with a surface of more than 40 square meters can be completely opened in less than three seconds. This corresponds to an average motion speed of about 2,0 m/sec.

Passenger gangways, mobile transportation conveyors, de-icing vehicles for wing panels, luggage trailers as well as late night check-in luggage are all stored in the ground-traffic-service hall. Each of the doors opens and closes 15 to 20 times per hour. That makes 150 to 200 opening cycles every day.

The airport corporation Stuttgart can not afford unreliable doors. A temporary malfunction would already cause trouble and delays of the check-in and would therefore result in extra costs.
