John Holland wins contract in Western Australia

Australian construction firm Leighton Holdings said its John Holland unit has been awarded a $125 million contract for Structural Mechanical and Piping construction works on Worsley Alumina's $2.5 billion Efficiency and Growth Alumina Refinery Project in Western Australia.

The Area 1 mechanical and piping works will increase the alumina refinery capacity by over 30 per cent, from 3.5 to 4.6 million tonnes per annum. The contract will involve construction of new processing facilities for bauxite blending and storage, calcination, filtration, classification and alumina handling. Process piping works and modifications to the site's existing precipitation facility will also be undertaken as part of the works.

John Holland's scope of work includes pre-assembly and installation of 6000 tonnes of structural steel, 56,000 metres of piping and 200 tonnes of bulk mechanical items.
