Leighton wins contracts in the UAE and Australia

Group companies of Hochtief's subsidiary Leighton have won new contracts worth some EUR 609 million. In a joint venture, the Al Habtoor Leighton Group will build the Tameer Towers development in Abu Dhabi. The project represents a total volume of approximately EUR 1.18 billion (AED 6.4 billion); the Al Habtoor Leighton Group's share comes to almost EUR 388 million (AED 2.1 billion).

For the Tameer Towers development project on Al Reem Island in the United Arab Emirates, four high-rise towers with up to 66 floors will be built. The 920,000-square-meter site will also feature a five-star business hotel, a 74-level office tower and a marina. Works at Tameer Towers will start this month and are scheduled to be completed in two stages by the end of 2011.

In Melbourne, Australia, John Holland is strengthening the West Gate Bridge until mid-2011. After completion of the works, the bridge will carry five lanes of traffic in the peak direction. The alumina refinery in Gladstone, Australia, will be extended by five process areas. John Holland will complete the project by April 2010.
