Atkins climbs up to second place in AJ100 list

British architecture and engineering firm Atkins has risen two places to become the UK's second largest architecture practice, according to the latest rankings by leading trade magazine Architects' Journal. The rankings show that Atkins' architecture business, with 286 architects, is continuing to grow year-on-year, having moved from sixth to second position in the past three years.

Atkins has experienced its strongest growth in the Middle East region, where it has been responsible for iconic designs including the Burj Al Arab and the Bahrain World Trade Centre. In the UK, the company has won particular acclaim over the past 12 months for its work on Northumbria University's City Campus East – the project has quickly become an icon for carbon critical design.
