UK's most considerate site named

Considerate Constructors Scheme 2008 National Awards were presented at lunch ceremonies, spread across 9 days, at the Plaisterers’ Hall, London. From over 6,500 eligible sites, 473 were selected as National Award winners in the categories of Gold (54), Silver (142) and Bronze (277). The scheme was set up by the construction industry to improve its image. Projects that register with the scheme are monitored against a Code of Considerate Practice, designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements. Code of practice headings judged include 'considerate, environment, cleanliness, good neighbour, respectful, safe, responsible and accountable'.

The 2008 Most Considerate Site Award went to Birse Civils Ltd, in conjunction with English Partnerships and New East Manchester, for its Beswick Regeneration project, in Manchester.

This major project demanded the creation of infrastructure and below ground works on a brownfield site being developed by other contractors, situated close to schools, a church and some residential properties.

Particular mention this year must go to Essy Jahanpour of Wrekin Construction Co Ltd, who collected two Silver Awards, taking his personal tally to ten. Essy is the Scheme's most consistent Award winner, and has won an Award every year since 2000, when he was given the Most Considerate site accolade.
