Iberdrola Renovables awarded for CORE facility in Toledo

The government of Spain's Castile-La Mancha region has given an award to the Renewable Energies Operations Centre (CORE in its Spanish acronym) of Iberdrola Renovables, under its first annual Regional Energy Project Awards programme, in the "Energy and Economic Impact" category.

The CORE centre, located in the central Spanish province of Toledo, is a pioneering initiative in the wind power industry, thanks both to its advanced technology and its operations and scope. The facility represents an investment of $10 by the renewables unit of the Spain's Iberdrola utility group.

The centre, operating 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, monitors and controls all the company's wind farms, mini-hydroelectric plants, and substations around the world in real time.

The CORE facility was commissioned in July, 2003 to optimise the technical and economic management of these installations, enhancing the quality of renewable energy supplies. The facility also contributes to the stability of Spain's national power grid by controlling inputs of wind energy, which now enters the grid at numerous points throughout the country.
