gmp to renovate “Stadion Slaski” for the EURO 2012 in Poland

The existing "Stadion Slaski" in Chorzow near Katowice with its 70.000 seats, currently the biggest stadium in Poland, is going to be renovated up to UEFA standards for the EURO 2012. In the course of the competition the design of the gmp architects has been chosen for realization. On April 28 the contract with the Polish client of "Stadion Slaski" was signed. The building period will be from 2009 to 2010. Since the acclaimed modernization of Berlin's Olympic Stadium if not before, the Hamburg architectural team of von Gerkan, Marg, and Partners (gmp) has been thoroughly established as a star in the field of sports-arena construction. Three football stadiums in Germany--the spectacular RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, the Stadion der Freundschaft in Cottbus, and the new Waldstadion in Frankfurt--as well as a series of projects in the Arab Gulf States, North Africa and China have set new standards around the world.
