Climate Change from a Transatlantic Perspective

MWH, a global provider of environmental engineering, strategic consulting and construction services, and its Dutch unit MWH B.V. will host an international symposium on climate change which will take place at the Delft University of Technology on Friday the 25th of April. At this symposium, called 'Climate Change from a Transatlantic Perspective', national and international recognized speakers will present on diverse subjects regarding climate change in key note speeches, workshops and a political debate. There will be other well-known national and international guests, who have a business and scientific and political background, to discuss climate change and the future together with the symposium participants.

At the workshop Disaster Management for instance will address that disasters like a super storm Katrina can also happen in the Netherlands. Are we then sufficiently prepared for such a catastrophe? What can we learn from the manner in which the New Orleans clean-up and recovery efforts were coordinated after the hurricane Katrina?’

The morning programme consists of presentations by renowned international key note speakers and in the afternoon various workshops are held which will address climate change from a technical, psychological, economical and social context. Professor Eelco Dykstra will explain that Katrina could happen in the Netherlands and MWH Global's Stephen Browning shares his experiences regarding the clean-up and recovery efforts after 9/11 and Katrina. Bob Uhler, CEO MWH Global, and drs. Dirk Jan van den Berg, the new president of the Delft University of Technology, will also focus in the morning on the worldwide climate change issues.

At the end of the symposium day there will be an exhilarant political debate between members of the Dutch & European Parliament and (former) members of the US Senate Committees, both Democrats and Republicans. This political debate will be led by America-authority Maarten van Rossem and will focus on the transatlantic possibilities in the fight against climate change after the American presidential elections in November of this year.
