Italy's Impregilo wins $447 mln worth order in the USA

Impregilo SpA, Italy's largest builder, has been awarded by Southern Nevada Water Authority tender for a complex water extraction and transportation system based at Lake Mead, one of the USA's largest artificial reservoirs approximately 30 kilometres south-east of Las Vegas (Nevada), to increase drinking and domestic water supplies in the Las Vegas urban area. The order is worth 447 million dollars.

The customer, Southern Nevada Water Authority, is a public-sector cooperative agency providing water services for a population of approximately two million people.

The technically complex project involves the construction of a water intake on the lake bed at a depth of approximately 100 metres, a 5 km tunnel and excavation of a 200 metre access shaft. Work will begin shortly and is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2012.
