Shaw selected by RWE npower for program in the United Kingdom

Shaw Group announced that its Power Group has been selected by RWE npower as its alliance partner to develop two new carbon capture and storage ready supercritical coal-fired power stations being considered at Tilbury, Essex and Blyth, Northumberland in the United Kingdom. As RWE npower's alliance partner, Shaw has been awarded a development services contract to provide stage-one support for the proposed power generation program of up to 5 x 800 MWe generation units. The value of Shaw's development services contract, which was not disclosed, will be included in the company's third quarter fiscal 2008 backlog.

If built, the supercritical coal plants would replace three existing coal-fired units at Tilbury Power Station in Essex and four coal-fired units at Didcot A Power Station in Oxfordshire that will close by 2015.

RWE npower, the U.K. arm of RWE Group, is the U.K.'s largest electricity supplier with 6.5 million residential and business customers.
