Fläkt Woods fans selected for landmark London building

Fläkt Woods has won an order to supply precision fans for one of London's newest landmark buildings; 20 Churchill Place on the eastern gateway of the Canary Wharf Estate. The building, purpose built for State Street Corporation, comprises 3 main sections; a 17 storey block to the north clad in natural stone, an 8 storey podium wing of clear glass curtain wall to the south and a natural stone base which wraps the building on three sides. FCS Ductwork commissioned Fläkt Woods engineers to design the most effective ventilation mix. A combination including toilet extract fans, Box and Copford fans plus JM axial flow fans fitted with inverters, proposed as the optimum solution.

The building has a floor area of 355,000 square feet with 12 office floors above ground on the northern section and 4 floors on the southern section. The JM fans are being used principally for ventilation, with some handling smoke ventilation at 300ºC for 1 hour and others rated at standard temperature. Many different sizes have been specified, ranging from 500 mm - 1400 mm in diameter.

Fläkt Woods' Boxed fan range is designed to offer environmental management through a controllable solution, ensuring optimum performance at minimum running costs. They are very compact and suitable for installation in the most confined situations. The intelligent control regulates the amount of energy required to operate, by adjusting the power consumption to match system demands.

The system has already proved itself, significantly reducing enabling times and leading to minimal installation costs. The fans come with sensors, switches, valves and duct mounted dampers. Plug and play sensor connectors can also provide quick, simple installation for remote functions (upto 8 per fan), CO2 detection, humidity levels and pressure.
