Bau almost fully booked

Around one year before Bau 2009 opens its doors, almost all the space at the event has been booked. Only a few spaces remain in the 17 exhibition halls covering a total of 180,000 sq. m. Between 12 and 17 January 2009 around 2,000 exhibitors from 40 countries will be presenting their products and solutions at Europe´s largest trade fair for architecture, building materials and building systems. The range of products and solutions presented at Bau 2009 covers the whole bandwidth of planning, building and design. The 17 exhibition halls are divided up according to building materials, product and theme areas.

The focal themes at Bau 2009 will span all materials, offering solutions for almost all segments of building, and ones that are of interest in particular to architects, planners and project developers. These key themes at Bau 2009 are: Intelligent façades (façade technology, solar technology), energy-efficient architecture (thermal insulation, passive-energy houses, energy management), building security (locks, fire protection, security/monitoring, blast prevention) and architectural surfaces (wood, plastics, stone, cast stone, tiles, ceramics).

In addition to the presentations by the exhibitors themselves, BAU 2009 will also be taking up themes – in two forums – that are of particular importance to planners, architects, project developers and investors. The lecture programme in the forum on ‘The Future of Building’ concentrates on the themes of ‘Mega-cities’, ‘Energy and architecture’, ‘Homes today and tomorrow’, ‘Solar architecture’, ‘Built visions’ and ‘Emerging stars.’

The forum on ‘Macro-architecture’ concentrates on the dialogue between architecture and industry. It explores themes connected with both the exterior of a building and its interior. On the programme here is a diverse range of lectures entitled, for example ‘Material and product’, ‘Colour and ornament’, ‘Surface and innovation’, ‘Building and detail’, ‘Façade and function’ and ‘Architecture and responsibility’.

Once again in 2009 Bau will be the platform for the presentation of a range of architecture and engineering prizes, among them the 1:1 Award for ‘The First House’, the ‘Detail Prize’ awarded by the Munich-based architectural magazine of the same name, and an ‘Innovations Prize for Renovation and Modernisation’.

Traditionally Bau is also the venue for the presentation of the ‘Oscars’ awarded to building suppliers (by publishers Wohlfarth of Duisburg). A special display by the Institute of Window Technology of Rosenheim presents the ‘Diversity of Windows in Europe’. Another special display is ‘Timber construction of the future’, sponsored by the German Society for Wood Research (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Holzforschung). In addition many trade associations in the German building and construction industry make use of Bau 2009 for their conferences, congresses and symposia.
