Deubau gives start to construction year

The 23rd edition of Deubau, International Building Trade Fair for Construction, Interior Work and Civil Engeniering, was held from January 8th to 12th, at Messe Essen. 71,200 visitors at a high specialist level obtained information about the latest range offered by the 780 exhibitors in total. While 40 percent of the trade visitors are assuming a stable economic situation in the sector, 42 percent are expecting an upward tendency.

In addition to the construction of new buildings, "Building in the Existing Stock" was one of the major Deubau subjects in 2008. With the keywords of redevelopment, renovation and modernisation, the industry presented a large number of new products and processes at the fair in order to upgrade houses and apartments to the "latest status".

Are new building materials such as bricks with integrated thermal insulation recommended for the construction of new buildings? Do subsequent thermal insulation systems promise a rise in the energy efficiency in old buildings? Here, new materials permit lower thicknesses of the insulating material layer, e.g. thanks to improved thermal insulation characteristics. New paints prevent mould attack thanks to nanotechnology. Floor elements which are dry screed and underfloor heating at the same time are quite particularly suitable for retrofitting in old buildings. Practicable solutions for internal insulation are in the spotlight, above all, amongst owners of historic buildings.

In over 50 forums, experts at the "Old Buildings Marketplace" provided information about how and with what products buildings can be modernised properly. Furthermore, the special events entitled "Roof and Wood Construction" and "Finishing & Facade" concentrated not only on the presentation of practical detailed solutions but also on advisory discussions.

This year, the supporting programme of Deubau with congresses, conferences, symposiums and awards ceremonies was more comprehensive than ever before. For example, the "Research Initiative on the Future of Construction" reported on results of various research projects. A wide range of subjects were discussed at the fair - from the construction culture via the new "Role Model for the Construction Industry" right up to technical innovations in housebuilding.

One particular highlight was provided by the largest architecture congress in the western world: In the Grugahalle, nearly 4,000 architects enthusiastically followed the lectures delivered by the seven invited international star architects on the subject of "New Construction with Steel for the Public".

The 24th International Construction Trade Fair Deubau will take place at Messe Essen on January 12 - 16, 2010.
