Katowice Silesia City Center wins World Leadership Awards 2007

Katowice Silesia City Center, a project developed by the Hungarian corporation TriGranit, has been announced the winner of the prestigious World Leadership Awards 2007. Awards are given to cities and investors for projects and solutions from various areas. This year more than 400 cities across the world submitted their projects for the competition. Silesia City Center was nominated in the category "Economy and Employment". It was shortlisted together with projects from India and the Republic of South Africa. During an overview of the shortlisted candidates, judges reviewed the Polish elements of TriGranit's idea of the "City Center", developed and introduced by the corporation throughout Central and Eastern Europe.

The Silesia City Center, comprising shopping, entertainment and recreational areas, opened in November 2005. The 1000-flat Oak Terrace residential development is under construction: the first flats will be completed in the first quarter of 2008. One of the planned Silesia Towers office buildings (ca. 65,000 sq. m. of class A office space) will be the highest (125 m) building of this type in the region; commencement of construction is planned for 2008.

The panel of judges – among others - appreciated the positive influence of the investment on the economy and the labour market of Katowice and the entire region: regeneration of the postindustrial site (30 hectares) of a former mine; the contribution to the development of modern commerce and services; investments in urban infrastructure (roads, utilities networks); job creation and plans to create even more jobs.
