Carillion's revised bid is accepted by Alfred McAlpine

Carillion has agreed a £572m deal to take over Alfred McAlpine in a move which will create the UK’s largest support services and construction companies with an aggregate revenue of approximately £4.7 billion. The companies announced they have reached agreement on a 558p a share deal, 27p per share lower than initial price of 585p provisionally agreed in October.

Carillion says the combined business will make £30m cost savings by end of 2009 (the first full year after completion of the acquisition).
