New consortium intensifies toll activities in Russia

Satellic, a subsidiary of Germany's IT services provider T-Systems, German electronics and engineering giant Siemens and Austrian construction group Strabag have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly exploit the Russian market for toll systems. Russia is planning a number of large-scale infrastructure projects and these are expected to require a system to collect roadway usage fees. The planned construction of some 3,200 km of new motorways in Russia and Ukraine over the next five years presents the three companies with a significant market potential, which has led to the decision to work together in this field.

Satellic and Siemens possess many years of experience in the area of satellite toll systems. Strabag currently operates toll motorways in four European countries: Hungary, Poland, Croatia and Ireland.
