Acciona invests 720 million euro in a Brazilian road

Spanish construction firm Acciona Group, made up of Acciona Infrastructure (76%) and Acciona Do Brasil (24%), has received the concession to resurface and operate BR-393/RJ toll road in Brazil. This section of road runs parallel to the border between Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro states up to the Dutra (BR-116) road; a total of 1,883 million reais (720 million euro) will be invested during the 25-year concession period.

The bulk of investment will be concentrated in the first five years of the project, during which time the main widening and improvement works will be carried out, as well as the total resurfacing of the highway. During this period, Acciona will spend around 258 million reais (approximately 90 million euro), out of a total of 749 million reais which will be invested during the concession period. Additionally, operation and maintenance (O&M) costs will amount to 1,134 million reais (about 433 million euro) over 25 years.

The contract includes financing, resurfacing, maintaining, conserving, widening, improving and operating the 200.4 km stretch as a toll road. A total of 5,500 vehicles use the road daily, half of them heavy vehicles.
