Nuremberg economic barometer points to sunny

FachPack (packaging solutions), PrintPack (package printing and packaging supplies production) and LogIntern (intralogistics) take their marks in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 25-27 September 2007 with 1,326 exhibitors (2006: 1,325). The exhibition trio has increased in space to 48,600 m² (2006: 47,690 m²) and fills ten exhibition halls. The efficient German packaging industry is traditionally powerfully represented with 1,072 companies, but 254 companies mainly from the neighbouring countries of Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, France, Belgium and the Czech Republic also present their products and services for the good 33,000 trade visitors expected (2006: 33,056). The business barometer currently points to very sunny for exhibitors and visitors at the Nuremberg exhibition trio, one of the most important packaging exhibitions in Central Europe.

FachPack convinces with a powerful range of packaging materials, packaging supplies and packaging ancillaries. Well over 500 exhibitors underline FachPack's recognized competence especially in this segment. Around 30 % of the exhibitors in Nuremberg are present with packaging machinery. This is supplemented with the important labelling and marking equipment, palletizing equipment and products for package recycling and package testing. PrintPack focuses on package and label printing, design, finishing and packaging supplies production. The exhibitors at LogIntern present transport and conveying systems, loading equipment, storage and order-picking systems, information systems and control systems. The three exhibitions therefore reflect the complete in-house packaging process chain in one place for the fourth time.

Of the three exhibitions, LogIntern is growing particularly well in terms of space. The youngest of the trio started as an independent exhibition for intralogistics for the first time in 2003 with some 80 exhibitors. The special show at LogIntern deals with "Packaging and Transport". This illustrates the necessary coupling between material flow and information systems using an example of five stations in a realistic industrial scenario.

The "parent exhibition" FachPack is 28 years young and dynamic. Its special show entitled "Robotics, Assortments and Automation in Packaging" takes up the trend themes of flexibility and automation. The complex packaging line shows how products (delicious chocolate in this case) are fed in, packed in their primary and secondary packaging, palleted and finally packed for shipment – all fully automatically and including the relevant labelling systems.

And because appearance not only whets the appetite but also encourages the consumer to buy, PrintPack has enhanced the range of products at the exhibition with everything that makes packages more attractive and successful – from design to production – since 2001. In 2007, the PrintPack special show and a whole-day seminar on 24 September are devoted to Anti-Counterfeiting Packaging . Counterfeit products are not only annoying from an economic viewpoint, but can also have fatal consequences in the case of products like drugs or spare parts for vehicles. The special show gives tips on how clever packaging can make life difficult for counterfeiters.

What results when 300 development and design specialists pore over packaging: for example, reclosable sausage beakers and chocolate bars, tubes of glass that simulate plastic, an invisible RFID tag integrated into corrugated cardboard, anti-corrosion spray labels with a rust touch, stackable bottles (thanks to flattened hollows!), fish crates that used to be grey, square and stinking now as a wavy piece of ocean and "showroom for fresh fish" or football boots with studs that apply fertilizer to the maltreated grass... The independent jury of the German Packaging Award was once again spoilt for choice. The entries were expertly assessed, tested and heatedly discussed for two days in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg in August. 48 exhibits are nominated for the German Packaging Award 2007.
