Sensor+test figures show rise

From 22 to 24 May in Nuremberg, 610 exhibitors from 25 countries have presented the entire measuring technology spectrum – from sensors to systems and complete test rigs. An 11% increase clearly demonstrates the significance of the Sensor+test as the worldwide most important marketplace for sensor, measuring, and testing technology. With 8,671 visitors from 36 countries, 15% more professionals obtained information on the latest innovations, trends, and developments in measuring technology. Thus, the exhibitors were also satisfied: Compared to last year, not only was satisfaction over the successful participation clearly on the rise, but the business outlook as well.

Besides the number of visitors and the subjective impressions of the exhibitors, the quality of the professionals, who visit the trade show, has developed positively. The results from exhibitor and visitor polls have shown that the number of foreign visitors has increased more than the total number of visitors. This is reflected by an increase in visitors from abroad by 22%. Especially visitor figures from America and Asia have had a steep rise. Nevertheless, the greater part of the foreign visitors (69%) still come from the European Union. Just about all professionals visiting the fair are from the electronics and electrotechnology (46%), mechanical engineering (25%), as well as automotive and aerospace (14%) industries. Almost two-thirds of the visitors to the Sensor+test are from R&D and design departments. These professionals have considerable influence on purchasing decisions (92%). Satisfied or very satisfied with the information offered at the Sensor+test were 98%.

The conferences, held parallel to the Sensor+test 2007, were also very successful. The Sensor Conference, chaired by Prof. Dr. Reinhard Lerch, University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, and Prof. Dr. Roland Werthschützky, of the Technical University Darmstadt, at which the latest research developments were presented, had 685 participants – a good number indeed. Here also, the number of foreign visitors (37%) was clearly higher than at the last conference in 2005. Besides the traditional measuring-technology topics, such as pressure or flow, great emphasis was placed on industrial development projects, in which new research results were implemented.

The next Sensor+test will be held from 6 to 8 May 2008 again in Nuremberg. Scheduled parallel to the trade fair are the OPTO Conference on Optical Technology for Sensing and Measuring as well as the IRS² Conference for Infrared Sensors and Systems. In view of the success of the GESA Expert Forum, held for the first time this year, the organisers have decided to hold it again next year. Scheduled as well is the Action Hall with its comprehensive presentation options.
