Acciona to develop three new Cenit projects

Acciona to take part in three new Cenit Projects, aimed at stimulating co-operation between companies, universities and Government Agencies in the promotion of research and development in Spain. The Spanish construction, energy and service group is present in three of the 16 consortiums which have been selected to carry out their proposals and is to assign a total of 19 million euros to the implementation of the projects over the next four years.

The projects which have been awarded are as follows:

TIMI (Intelligent Transportation of Intermodal Merchandise), led by Atos Origin and with the participation of Acciona Trasmediterránea. The objective of the project is to improve efficiency in the intermodal transportation of goods through the development of planning, control, management and communication systems that consider the problem in a holistic manner. For this purpose, a future generation of devices, systems and tools is to be created, directed at streamlining the planning of itineraries, increasing precision in localisation and control on routes and increasing security with biometric and cognitive vision technologies.

Ciudad Ecotecnologica, led by Arcelor and with a significant level of participation from Acciona Infraestructuras and Acciona Solar. The objective is to develop new and advanced construction materials and systems, based on steel and other multi-material components, for a new model of energy efficient eco-building. It includes trying to resolve technological challenges such as the inclusion of renewable energies in construction, the inclusion of sensoric applications and instrumentation to create intelligent buildings within a sustainable urban habitat.

CLEAM (Clean, Efficient and Environmentally Friendly Construction), with the participation of Acciona Servicios Urbanos y Medio Ambiente. The aim of the project is to develop an innovative model for the design, construction and management of lineal transport infrastructures included in the concept of sustainability. This includes solutions ranging from the use of waste and recycled materials, the use of new materials with advanced features to the introduction of devices to reduce the impact on flora and fauna and to increase the safety of users.

These projects, together with those of earlier bids, bring the total number of Cenit projects managed by Acciona to nine, placing it at the forefront in participation on the programme Ingenio 2010, true to its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
