HNTB selected for George Washington Bridge rehabilitation project

Joint venture partners, HNTB and Parsons Transportation Group New York, Inc., have been selected by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to provide design services for the rehabilitation of the main-span upper level deck of the George Washington Bridge.

The HNTB-Parsons team will perform detailed inspection, analysis and repair of the 30-year-old orthotropic deck, as well as weigh-in-motion measurements of actual truck loads, finite element analysis, field instrumentation of the steel decks and performance of other priority steel repairs, including modifications to the main finger joints.

The George Washington Bridge is a toll suspension bridge that crosses the Hudson River, between Fort Lee, N.J., and Upper Manhattan in New York City, constituting a part of Interstate Highway 95.

The project design phase will be completed in December 2008, with construction taking place until 2010.
