Atkins appoints new head of Highway Services

Atkins, the design and engineering consultancy, has appointed a new managing director of Highway Services, part of its Highways & Transportation business. Philip Hoare, who took up the role this month, joined Atkins in 1997. He has led the development of the Highways & Transportation business in the company's Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea offices. More recently he headed up Gloucestershire Highways and led a team of 350 people from Gloucestershire County Council and Atkins to deliver the pioneering highway services contract which started in April last year.

Philip succeeds Richard Barrett, who has been made managing director, Europe. Richard led the development of Highways Services for five years, securing a number of major contracts.
