Sacyr Vallehermoso's 1Q profit nearly triples

Spanish construction giant Sacyr Vallehermoso (SyV) obtained a net attributable profit of 203.1 million euros during the first quarter, up 174.3% on the same period in 2006. Ebitda (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) rose to 292.5 million euros, up 25%. Business activities yielding recurrent long-term revenues (infrastructure concessions, rental property and services) represented 55% of Ebitda. Turnover was 1,267.3 million euros, up 27.7% on the same period last year.

The positive performance of the areas of business is reflected in the increases under this heading, the construction area (with 41%) and Itinere and Valoriza (each with 31%) being noteworthy. The group's gross margin is 23.1, the highest in the sector. Sacyr Vallehermoso's total assets reached 27,480 million euros in March 2007, up 82% on the year.
