Amec appointed Ed Sides as a principal resource geologist

Amec plc, the international project management services company, has appointed Ed Sides as a principal resource geologist, based at the Old Street office in London. He will work closely with the Amec's global mining business based in North America and the UK environmental mining services team at Ashford in Kent.

Ed brings more than 25 years experience of the mining industry to Amec, including 10 years with Rio Tinto's technical consulting group. He also played a key role in the design, development, implementation and operation of geological database and resource estimation systems at several major mines, including Minas de Rio Tinto (Spain) and Neves-Corvo (Portugal).

He then spent eight years as a lecturer in mineral resource exploration and evaluation in the Netherlands. He joins Amec from the Snowden Group, where his recent work spanned a range of commodities including copper, gold, uranium and titanium and countries such as Norway, Kyrgyzstan, Guinea, Mauritania, Mail and Columbia.
