| Fortune names Centex most admired home building company Dallas-based Centex Corporation announced Fortune has ranked the company No. 1 in the home building industry on the magazine's annual list of "America's Most Admired Companies." This is Centex's fifth No. 1 ranking in the last eight years on the Fortune list, ranking No. 1 three of those years in engineering and construction, and No. 1 two of those years in home building. Fortune selects "America's Most Admired Companies" from among the largest U.S. companies in 63 industry categories.
