Acciona will supply La Montañesa with pure biodiesel

Acciona will supply a minimum of 1.5 million litres of biodiesel to La Montañesa, the public transport operator of the Pamplona area. The vegetable oil-based fuel will be produced in Acciona's plant at Caparroso and will cover the consumption of around 50 city buses, whose greenhouse and contaminant gas emissions will be considerably reduced. The initiative was announced in a ceremony attended by Luis Ibero, President of the Pamplona Area Services Board, José Andrés Burguete; from the Government of Navarre José Andrés Burguete, Regional Minister for the Environment, Territorial Planning and Housing and Álvaro Miranda, Regional Minister for Public Works, Transport and Communications, together with Esteban Morrás, General Manager of the Energy Division of Acciona.

The event was held in the central Plaza del Castillo in Pamplona, where one of the first fifty city buses that will use 100% biodiesel was presented; the buses will have special labels showing them as ecological vehicles.

Acciona will supply La Montañesa with pure biodiesel -not mixed with conventional diesel fuel- homologated under European quality standard EN-14214, which guarantees trouble-free operation in conventional diesel engines. The conditions of the contract guarantee that the replacement of diesel with biodiesel will not represent an increase in fuel costs. As a result, users of public transport in the city will not have to pay higher fares.
