JiHua selects KBR for propylene plant

KBR, the engineering, construction and services subsidiary of Halliburton, has been awarded a basic design engineering package for a new production facility with a nominal propylene capacity of 200,000 ton/year utilizing Superflex technology. This unit will be added to an existing industrial site in Jilin City, Jilin Province of the People's Republic of China, and will be owned and operated by the Jilin Chemical (JiHua) Group Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). China Petroleum Engineering Company, Northeast Branch Company will perform the detailed engineering.

Superflex technology is a fluidized catalytic cracking process which converts low-value refinery and ethylene plant streams with a high degree of selectivity to propylene, ethylene and high octane gasoline. It is exclusively licensed worldwide by KBR and is based on Lyondell Chemical Company's developments and patents. The first commercial Superflex unit is currently under start-up for SASOL in South Africa.
