Solar electric systems for hotels in Santa Cruz

Borrego Solar completed a series of solar electric system installations for three hotels in Santa Cruz, California. A 22kW system installed on the Sunset Inn is up and running, and the Best Western Inn, 20kW, and Best Western All Suites Inn, 51kW, are designed to take the advantage of the sun. In total these systems will produce enough energy to power more than 30 homes with renewable energy. The three projects offer clear environmental benefits: together, they offset C02 emissions by over 191,000 pounds per year, or 5.76 million pounds over the life of the systems; equivalent to a passenger car driving over 321,000 miles per year, or planting 73 acres of trees.

The Best Western All Suites installation was placed on the hotel roof via a custom aluminum SunLink racking system. This system tilts up the modules in short rows so that the entire array is low in profile and has a large power density. It is also designed to resist high wind and seismic loads while still being lightweight, at less than 4 pounds per square foot.

Borrego Solar installed a total of 892 solar panels on the three buildings. The solar panels were manufactured by Sharp Solar.
