ACE conference on designing for the future

The Architects Council of Europe (ACE) is preparing to hold a important conference in 2007 that will address an audience of politicians and high level decision-makers in order to demonstrate the need to adopt a different approach in Europe to the current purely Economic Competitiveness Agenda. The Summit is being organised under the Patronage of Mr. José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, and is scheduled to take place in November 2007 in Brussels.

With the deadline for the implementation of the Lisbon Strategy approaching and following its review in 2005 the architectural profession has noted that the purely economic approach, whereby the European Union is concentrating on the creation of growth and jobs, is not sufficient, on its own, to answer the needs of European Society and the development objectives that it has set.

The Summit will examine the impact that European policies have had on the quality of the built environment and will demonstrate how quality in the built environment fundamentally affects productivity, efficiency and a sense of well being in society.
