Solar Development introduces new solar energy project

Solar Development has completed the installation of one of the largest photovoltaic solar system on a commercial business in California. The system, a one Megawatt AC solar array, covers an area the size of three football fields on the roof and grounds of Tony's Fine Foods in West Sacramento. The solar system generates electricity to power Tony's extensive frozen and refrigerated food storage warehouse. When the solar array generates more electricity than Tony's needs it exports the electricity back to the electrical grid. Since the system was switched on earlier this month the meter has run backwards at Tony's for at least some portion of every sunny day.

This large solar project needed a total of 5,782 photovoltaic modules. The contract also included the cost of new energy efficient lighting for the warehouse, which further reduces electricity costs.
