30 St Mary Axe voted Best New Building in London

Londoner's voted 30 St Mary Axe (the Gherkin) best new building in the capital, in a poll for the London Architecture Biennale.

Developed on the precedents of green architecture for which the practice is renowned, 30 St Mary Axe is the capitals first ecologically progressive skyscraper, and its uncompromising quality has set a benchmark for an emerging generation of tall buildings.

An award for a London Hero was also given jointly to Roger Madelin of Argent and Richard Rogers' Urbanism Unit. The public was asked to nominate the individual who has done the most in the past year to improve the quality of the environment in the capital. The winners were then selected by the London Architecture Biennale committee.
